Plot Summary

Lucien and Regina are foragers - They gather wild mushrooms in the woodlands of New Jersey and sell them to restaurants in New York. Their lifestyle is simple, their income unstable. To improve their financial security and to follow a more fulfilling personal career path, Regina decides to take a job cooking at a high-end restaurant. Lucien disapproves and instead, he proposes to give up their apartment and live as full-time itinerant foragers. As individual desires take them down divergent paths over the course of a year, their marriage slowly comes apart.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Like the two characters, the film has trouble finding purchase, which yields a more acute feeling of dissatisfaction than was probably intended. – Nicolas Rapold, New York Times, Oct 2, 2012

Rotten: A lack of dramatic force and zero chemistry between the leads make the film play like a compilation of episodes rather than a flowing narrative, but two sequences are inspired, and the rest has an earnest if underwhelming appeal. – Variety Staff, Variety, Aug 20, 2013

Fresh: Despite an awkwardly jokey title, Now, Forager has charm, intelligence and a cool passion for its principled characters -- an appealing off-menu slice for hungry indie admirers. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Aug 20, 2013

Fresh: Likeably unassuming, good-looking US indie may exert offbeat appeal to the foodie crowd. – Neil Young, Hollywood Reporter, Aug 20, 2013
