About the Movie

Kristen Wiig stars as Imogene, a failed New York playwright who is forced to make the humiliating move back home to New Jersey with her eccentric mother and younger brother (Annette Bening and Christopher Fitzgerald) after both her career and relationship hit the skids. Adding further insult to injury, there's a strange man sleeping in her old bedroom (Darren Criss) and an even stranger man sleeping in her mother's bed (Matt Dillon). Through it all, Imogene eventually realizes that, as part of her rebuilding process, she must finally come to love and accept both her family and her Jersey roots if she's ever going to be stable enough to get the hell away from them.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Wiig didn't write the script for Girl Most Likely, but surely all those years of making tangy lemonade from the SNL writing staff's lemons must have given her the chops to do more than she manages to do here. What a shame. – Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 21, 2013

Rotten: [Wiig] might want to consider whether she really wants to get stuck unto eternity playing women on the verge. – Ella Taylor, NPR, Jul 18, 2013

Rotten: Kristen Wiig's comic artistry and its melodramatic tinge are squandered in this frenetic, schematic comedy, which also lays waste to a fertile premise. – Richard Brody, New Yorker, Jul 29, 2013

Rotten: "Girl Most Likely" is a strange movie, in that it has the atmosphere of a comedy and some extreme characters set up to be comical, but there are really no funny scenes. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 22, 2013

Sweet, Funny and Entertaining

I am SO GLAD I read reviews from customers and decided to rent this movie. While the movie may not be groundbreaking or life affirming, GIRL MOST LIKELY was charming, cute and definitely worth the $5 to rent!

Total waste of time. Skip it.

I guess hardcore Wiig fans will enjoy this movie but there’s very little for comedy (or dark comedy) fans to find engaging, entertaining or even funny about this story. I think you’re supposed to empathize with Wiig’s character because her NYC “friends” and boyfriend are mean to her, but we found ourselves trying to find any likable characteristics in Wiig’s character. If you like predictable, pseudo-dark-romantic comedies that aren’t actually smart or funny with boring and pathetic main characters, and a poorly conceived ending that trivializes the whole thing, then this is the movie for you!

Not a film for happy people.

I was looking for a relaxing flick to watch with my newly pregnant wife. I started watching this movie by myself to make sure it wasn't either upsetting, poignant, sappy, emotional or would angry up the blood in any way. Unfortunately, this film ticked all the freakin' boxes. The main character was a miserable, dour, unsatisfied cry-baby who spent the whole movie complaining and trying to make everybody else in the movie feel as bad about their lives as she did. Her negativity was so overpowering and contagious that it took over the whole movie and left me hoping my wife never finds a copy of this movie on my computer….Awwww jeeez or on my iPad……I gotta go.
