About the Movie

Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite - confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: A darkly ironic and skillfully surreal examination of an unrealized life. – Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times, May 8, 2014

Fresh: As a pure head-trip visual and auditory experience it feels like one of the biggest discoveries, and biggest surprises, of 2014. – Andrew O'Hehir,, May 9, 2014

Fresh: This workplace-as-hellscape is not new territory, exactly - the story's based on Dostoevsky, plays like Kafka, and looks like an Orwellian nightmare. But who'd complain, since it lets Jesse Eisenberg offer what amounts to an acting master-class. – Bob Mondello, NPR, May 9, 2014

Rotten: Most of the time, "The Double" feels less like watching a book than reading a movie. – Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post, May 15, 2014

What a waste

I found myself fast forwarding just to get through it and I never do that. It was very slow and dull and I didn't like the acting at all, maybe if there was a different actor and the feel of the movie wasn't so hopeless, bland, and gloomy.

the double is a fantastic movie that really pushes itself to be unique, wierd, and funny in its own way. there is no other movie like the double

Good but...

This is a fairly good movie but it is definitely not a comedy. Not even close. It is interesting though and makes you think. The best part of this movie is Jesse Eisenberg because…let’s be honest….everything is better with Jesse Eisenberg. :)
