About the Movie

Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater's BOYHOOD is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (a breakthrough performance by Ellar Coltrane), who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason's parents and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, BOYHOOD charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before. Snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to birthdays and graduations and all the moments in between become transcendent, set to a soundtrack spanning the years from Coldplay's Yellow to Arcade Fire's Deep Blue. BOYHOOD is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting. It's impossible to watch Mason and his family without thinking about our own journey.

Fresh: Calling it a sum of its parts can be a backhanded compliment, but it feels like especially worthy praise for Boyhood, considering how much went into making it feel whole. – David Sims, The Atlantic, Sep 22, 2016

I have never written a review, "Boyhood" is so amazing that I HAVE to. I'm 19, and the age that Mason Jr was in the movie is parallel to my life. I saw so much of what I've gone through, but the beauty of this film is that everyone can relate. Moments are what make life, and there are so many in here that I wish there were even more. The film was almost three hours but I wish it could have been 6. These are characters that will stay with you forever. A true masterpiece of American cinema. If watched correctly, it will have you question your entire existence.

I am very surprised at how many people like this movie. I have never written a review before in my life but I am trying to save people from the experience I had . I wish I could get those almost three hours of my life back . It was the most boring , drawn out and non eventful movie ever and probably the worst movie I ever seen . The only good thing was the fact that the same actors throughout such a long time filming . I literally felt like u could have filmed my family watching this movie and it would have been more interesting . Sorry I really tried to enjoy it , I paid 13 bucks to rent it and stayed up through the whole thing until midnight hoping something interesting would happen

Ordinary, but extraordinary. Boyhood is a funny, moving and very entertaining film about life. Just the fact that this film was shot over 12 years with all the same actors alone is unbelievably impressive. But what really got to me was how relatable it was. I'm 22 which isn't too far off from the main character Mason so I could I identify a lot with him. This film is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Please go see this movie you won't regret it!!!
