About the Movie
When the record book closed on Boston Red Sox outfielder Jimmy Piersall's career, it showed 17 seasons in the major leagues and an impressive lifetime batting average of .272. But before he racked up those numbers, Piersall faced a foe much tougher that a 90-m.p.h. fastball: mental illness. Anthony Perkins stars as Piersall in this powerful true story. Fear Strikes Out also marks the filmmaking debut of Alan J. Pakula and Robert Mulligan, the team whose credits include To Kill A Mockingbird. From top to bottom, the film fields a stellar lineup of talent. And the result is a drama of unflinching force and effectiveness.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Mr. Perkins plays the young fellow excellently, not only conveying the gathering torment but also actually looking like a ballplayer on the field.
Fresh: Fear holds up well, and the climactic showdown between father and son offers a tremendously appealing resolution.
Fresh: Fear Strikes Out rolls Frank Merriwell and Sigmund Freud into a ball and then lines it out for a solid hit.
A really good film a really great actor!
Not a big fan of old movies but I saw this and really loved it. Anthony Perkins was one of the bast actors I've ever seen and it's sad not many people know him for much else than Psycho. I fully recommend this film. Buy it.
