About the Movie

George and Serena Pemberton (Academy Award® nominee Bradley Cooper and Academy Award® winner Jennifer Lawrence), love-struck newlyweds, begin to build a timber empire. Serena soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting rattlesnakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. With power and influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers George’s hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the Pembertons’ passionate marriage begins to unravel.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The actors don't just look uncomfortable in their period duds, they also look uneasy in their own skins, which is a feat for two such natural, physically confident screen performers. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Mar 26, 2015

Rotten: Left for dead since 2012, Serena would better serve its stars by burial, not resurrection. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Mar 26, 2015

Rotten: By making Serena ornamental, Bier diminishes her power, and Lawrence plays her as a petulant Lady Macbeth wannabe. Worse is Bradley Cooper, whose Pemberton comes off like an entitled scion, not a clear-cut timber king. – Serena Donadoni, Village Voice, Mar 24, 2015

Rotten: It's reassuring, really, to be reminded that top-tier Hollywood stars can make lousy choices just like the rest of us. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Mar 26, 2015

Serena is really good

I don’t really get the critic rating on this film - Bradley and Jennifer are great and have a lot of romantic chemistry. It’s a really beautiful film - check it out!
