About the Movie

From Mike Judge, one of the creative minds behind Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, and Office Space, comes an outrageous sci-fi comedy that'll make you think twice about the future of mankind. Meet Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson). He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. But when a government hibernation experiment goes awry, Bowers awakens in the year 2505 to find a society so dumbed-down by mass commercialism and mindless TV programming that he's become the smartest guy on the planet. Now it's up to an average Joe to get human evolution back on track!

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Ow! My brain! – Joshua Rich, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Mike Judge's Idiocracy is absolutely a satire for its time. What Judge is less sure of here than in his previous, perfectly pitched live-action comedy Office Space, is how to build a complete movie around his key ideas. – Robert Koehler, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Judge has a gift for delivering brutal satire in the trappings of low comedy and for making heroes out of ordinary people whose humanity makes them suspect in a world where every inch of space, including mental, is mediated. – Carina Chocano, Los Angeles Times, Sep 20, 2007

Fresh: Often stingingly funny -- and an undeserving resident of the summer's-end movie dumping ground. – Sheri Linden, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

if you can enjoy stupid comedy this is your movie, its perfect sadly fox never trully advertised as much as it deserved, this comedy is great if you like watching people be idiots while an average guy has to lead them this is your movie!

when I saw this movie I thought they woke up in 2008. The movie is ok (I'd give it 2.5 stars)... the story (I'd give this 5 stars) strikes a nerve especially with the world that we live in.
