Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: It plays like a salvage job, with all the attendant compromises. Though the film is laden with backstory and exposition, not much actually happens onscreen. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Your mileage may vary, especially if you feel that the gifted celebrity dead should be mourned with taste and decorum. In which case, why are you even at a Terry Gilliam movie? – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Shot through with a bold, extravagant generosity of spirit, this journey behind the literal and figurative looking glass marks a gratifying return to form for Gilliam, whose recent films haven't quite lived up to his capacities. – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: I attended the Cannes screening of Doctor Parnassus to be baffled, which I was, and then the Chicago press screening, where I had an idea what was coming and tried to reopen my mind. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Heath Ledger on The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

I went to go see this movie in January, and if your as much of a Heath Ledger fan as me your going to love it. This movie has a great story line and wonderful actors & director. If you have seen "The Brothers Grimm," and you loved it. Your going to get swept away in this fantasy trust in peace Heath Ledger.

Solid Gilliam

Terry Gilliam is not known for making dull films. This one is right on target. With lush sets and great acting, this exquisite and bizarre tale is feast for the eyes and the heart. It is a story of mistakes made and how we cannot find redemption on our own. If you saw The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and The Fisher King in the early 90's you will have a feel for the wonderful costumes and tender storyline that you can look forward to.

This movie definitally is worth watching. If you have good taste in movies after 30 minutes of this you will be into it. Very unique and different but for sure five stars.
