Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It's an exhilarating comic rush called In a World... and in it Lake Bell spins inspired lunacy around the subject of, among other things like family dysfunction, sexual healing and female empowerment, voiceovers.
Fresh: A clever, likable comedy that sends up sexism, satirizes Hollywood, examines family ties and features a surprisingly tender romance at its core
Fresh: Can't wait to see what Lake Bell the filmmaker does next.
Fresh: An indie comedy as surprisingly tender and wise as it is deftly wise-cracking.
This movie flows together much like a conversation between two good friends… spontaneously, wittily and perhaps most importantly, naturally.
Lake Bell acts like a five year old in this movie, when in fact she's supposed to be 30. The "jokes" are not funny. Everybody awkwardly rambles and I guess it's supposed to be endearing but I found it incredibly annoying. Lake Bell comes off as just another generation x "hipster" who acts entitled but lives like a slob and is rude and disrespectful to everyone around her. Oh, and somehow all the men in the movie thinks that she is "hot" and want to date her because it wouldn't be a movie without a cheesy love story.
Best Comedy of the Year
Now i understand why this film has won so many awards. IT'S SO MUCH FUN! It's incredibly well written, and the cast are all my favorite comedians. really the most enjoyable film i've seen in a long time. I saw it in the theater, and have been waiting for it to come out on iTunes to watch it again. I'm a life long Woody Allen fan, and i fear the day that he stops making films. But "In a World" is a great example of a new generation of filmmakers that will carry the torch just fine.
