About the Movie

Saul Leiter (1923–2013) could have been lauded as a great pioneer of color photography (his fashion work was published in Harper's Bazaar and Esquire), but was never driven by the lure of success. Instead he preferred to drink coffee and photograph in his own way, amassing an archive of beautiful work that is now piled high in his New York City apartment. An intimate and beautifully rendered film, In No Great Hurry follows Saul as he deals with the triple burden of clearing an apartment full of memories, becoming world famous in his 80s and fending off a pesky filmmaker.

Fresh: If the film at times seems only a tender profile of a quiet and quirky individual, it is also a meditation of a private life at its end. – Daniel M. Gold, New York Times, Jan 2, 2014

In No Great Hurry : Going Nowhere

I was so excited to see this film about a great idol of mine but was incredibly disappointed to watch if flounder and waft listlessly in no particular direction. Feels as if the director had no idea what he was looking for from his once in a lifetime interaction with a great man. He just allows it to go in whatever dull direction it wishes. Sad.

It is what it is, I liked it!

I can't agree with the previous review, having watched the film, it's apparent Mr. Leiter's world was not one of organization and a specific direction, and I think this film reflects just that, which makes total sense. Also, being in the filmmaking business, I can safely say, you're not going to direct Mr. Leiter in any specific direction, so what you have here is a lot of talking head, in a room, that is covered by basic cutaway. I think in the end, we're all lucky Mr. Leiter even agreed to have this doc shot, so enjoy it for what it is.
