Rotten: The whole gumbo lacks real zing.
Fresh: A good film from an accomplished director but one that is well down the list of his finest achievements.
This is a wonderful film! I am a big fan of James Lee Burke and this is a perfect rendition of "In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead." Tommy Lee Jones makes a fine Dave Robicheaux, tortured, violent, loving, imperfect -- human. Much more believable than Alec Baldwin ("Heaven's Prisoners"). Though the book was written in 1993, the film adaptation has been updated to the present, reflecting the damage done to SW Louisiana by Katrina. Great cast, great soundtrack, beautiful photography. If people think it moves a little slow, they perhaps don't understand that viewers need to do a little of the work themselves. Great shots of the Louisiana countryside and the devastation on that delicate ecosystem done by the destructive forces of "civilization" and of nature itself. The film also thoughtfully treats the racial and social tensions in that neck of the woods, both past and present. The caste system is alive and well in Louisiana.
In the Electric Mist
Finally a movie that looks and sounds like SW Louisiana. I never read the book but the story pulled me in right away. Beautifully shot and the soundtrack is awesome. Honest performance, believable and heartbreaking. Too bad it did not get picked up for release, it most certainly should have.
If ya from da bayou and ya no longer in da bayou....
this movie will make ya homesick. I really enjoyed this flick. I like Tommy, he played a okay coonass good'ol'boy. I really came on here hoping to find the soundtrack for the movie which is very well done. This is one of those movies that you realize has to end, but you hope it doesn't too soon.
