Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Ms. Kruger ... leaves a vivid, haunting impression. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Dec 26, 2017

Fresh: A starkly intimate character study that swerves into vigilante thriller-dom, the German-language drama In the Fade is a flawed filmgoing experience, but still a viscerally affecting one. – Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment Weekly, Dec 26, 2017

Fresh: Akin was inspired to tell the story by real-life political events in Germany, and his skills as a filmmaker are such that escape from this unsettling film is not in the cards. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Dec 26, 2017

Rotten: Superb as Ms. Kruger is, there's nothing she can do to keep the taut, heartfelt narrative from going off the rails. – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, Dec 28, 2017

Great Performances

Fantastic film with an amazing performance by Diane Kruger.

Great film

Don’t be concerned about having to read subtitles - this movie is fantastic.

True story. Mostly

A really good political thriller.
You should know that the NSU really did exist. The surviving women of the (supposedly) trio is in court for years now.
And there lies the “thrill”.
It seems that our German Verfassungsschutz (like NSA) had knowledge about the NSA Activity the whole time. It is said that they even helped the fascist terrorists.
Out of stupidity or because of a political agenda is still unclear.
