About the Movie

Imagine a novel so overwhelmingly hypnotic, so tremendously horrifying that it paralyzes its audience with fear and turns even its most sensible readers insane. When the author disappears, an insurance investigator hired to find the writer discovers far more than he could ever imagine in this spellbinding thriller. Starring Emmy and Golden Globe-nominee Sam Neill ("Jurassic Park," TV's "Merlin"), Jürgen Prochnow ("The Da Vinci Code," "The English Patient"), Julie Carmen ("Gloria," "The Milagro Beanfield War"), Emmy-winner David Warner ("Titanic," TV's "Masada") and Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Charlton Heston ("Ben Hur," "The Ten Commandments"). Directed by John Carpenter ("Escape from New York," "They Live").

A fun movie

This film is a modern take on Lovecraftian themes, evidenced by the rather obvious title for those in the know. It is occasionally campy, especially in the effects department, but delivers a good, even-paced story with the aid of Sam Neill.

I'd avoid it if you're expecting anything action-packed or overly obvious. Otherwise, it is a very enjoyable film that visits some ideas that are too infrequently explored on this medium.

Like most of Lovecraft's work and the other pieces inspired by it, this falls in the love it or hate it bin.

Another John Carpenter Classic!

This is one of John Carpenter's best. It stars Sam Neil who is one of my favorite actors. This is one sick and twisted movie. I don't want to ruin any of it but it is A MUST SEE!

5 Stars...really?

This movie was poorly acted by the lead, a little slow, and basically had all of the components of a made for TV movie. I guarantee that i-tunes has a handful of employees who write these overcomplimentary 4 and 5-Star reviews.
