Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The film has a genial it's-only-a-movie attitude that sets it apart, quite emphatically, from other blockbuster action movies.
Fresh: It's the first futuristic disaster movie that's as cute as a button. Which, when all the special effects blow over, is what we Americans like in a monster hit.
Fresh: As unavoidably entertaining as it is hopelessly cornball.
Rotten: There's precious little reward in plumbing the world-historical implications of the screenplay.
An absolute classic action movie. Great acting from Will Smith and a great storyline. Special effects are good, when you consider how "old" this movie is. Thumbs up for this.
why can't you buy it?
This movie is good,no it is really good. Infact it is so good that I think itunes should let people buy it not just rent it. What do you think?
Still holds up
Chessy? Perhaps. I can remember like it was yesterday seeing the trailer during Super Bowl sunday 96' and just had to see this. Not only could they release this movie summer 2008, the effects still surpass alot of today's movies. In fact, CG effects look cheap these days and I believe that way back when, they had to push as far as they could with what they had to make it look as cool as possible. Definately one of the movies to define the 90's. Loud & fun.
