Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The film has a genial it's-only-a-movie attitude that sets it apart, quite emphatically, from other blockbuster action movies.
Fresh: It's the first futuristic disaster movie that's as cute as a button. Which, when all the special effects blow over, is what we Americans like in a monster hit.
Fresh: As unavoidably entertaining as it is hopelessly cornball.
Rotten: There's precious little reward in plumbing the world-historical implications of the screenplay.
An absolute classic action movie. Great acting from Will Smith and a great storyline. Special effects are good, when you consider how "old" this movie is. Thumbs up for this.
Not a good movie a GREAT MOVIE
You should watch it for the Bill Pulman speech alone, it still gives me chills
I have seen this movie so many times I have lost count. One reason it is so entertaining and stirring is the fabulous music of David Arnold. He is a master of the mood with his compositions. One may say..."It is just a twist on the old War of the Worlds story" but ID4 is much more than that. It is a perfect combo of special effects and plot, maybe predictable to some extent, but it will leave you with a smile. Everybody needs to see this movie!!
