Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Too many scenes find the actors standing around without much idea of staging, as they airily prattle dialogue.
Rotten: Doesn't so much copy Terrence Malick as swallow the filmmaker's stylistic tics whole and vomit them out onscreen in an ungainly if mercifully brief mess.
Rotten: A film about an adolescent romance based on the pseudoscientific concept that some children possess special or supernatural powers.
Nostalgic Takes you back to your first crushes
I think that without the responsibilities of adulthood, scenarios like having crush on someone have a strong affect. This film did a good job at replicating that, highlighting the awkwardnesses that surrounded whenever you were around your crush. Grips the nervousness from the start.
A Painfully Honest Portrayal
A realistic portrayal of the serendipities in life and the not so perfectly painted stories we have been trained to expect. Because the story feels jagged at times, it highlights the inconsistencies of human nature and the imperfect and random rhythms that are brought out at times by chance. The heavy burden of loss woven into each character is very complex and runs deepest with the mother whose moment of emotional jettison acts as a catharsis and catalyst, as well as a crux for the film.
I liked it
A friend recommended I watch it and I enjoyed it. If I break it down I feel like I would reveal a lot about the plot. There are a few powerful moments that serve as a guide as to where the story is going. The soundtrack was great!
