About the Movie

Ingrid Thorburn (Aubrey Plaza) is an unstable young woman with a checkered past of obsessive behavior. She secretly moves to Los Angeles to befriend Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen) — an Instagram "influencer" with a fabulous artist boyfriend, a camera-ready terrier, and an array of new products and brands to promote to her followers. After Ingrid adopts a Taylor-made identity for herself, her attempts to prove she's BFF material are underway — that is, until she meets Taylor's obnoxious brother Nicky, who threatens to tear down her façade. Ingrid Goes West is a savagely hilarious dark comedy that brilliantly satirizes the modern world of social media and proves that being #perfect isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Now 33, Plaza can still get away with playing an ingenue (that's what Ingrid is, a toxic ingenue). She can do comedy. She can do drama. She's best of all, as here, at combining both. – Mark Feeney, Boston Globe, Aug 24, 2017

Fresh: Plaza, of course, is marvelous in the title role, embracing Ingrid's unflattering neediness with a commitment that's scary. – Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post, Aug 24, 2017

Fresh: Director and co-writer Matt Spicer displays just the right touch as the story gets crazier. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Aug 18, 2017

Fresh: Ingrid Goes West is part comedy, part tragedy, part horror/thriller, and part social commentary. Although it is primarily satirical, director/co-writer Matt Spicer never loses sight of the characters. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Aug 22, 2017

😳

I've been waiting for a movie like this so long it was so good but one More thing Ingrid really went west 😂. This movie was probably a drama pulse comedy

Refreshing and Brilliant

Moving aside the bias of me being a huge fan of Aubrey Plaza, this film will have you in fits of laughter and in pools of emotional tears. Ingrid Goes West is hauntingly realistic in this modern world we live in, and shows the desire to love and be loved. No theaters were playing the film locally, so I traveled an hour and a half to a theater that was playing it and was not at all disappointed. Then I traveled again when I had the time because the film is just so perfect. The film is gripping, hilarious, and leaves you thinking after watching. The cast and crew are spectacular! Definitely recommend.

Best of 2017!

I took my friend to this movie with no information; we both fell in love with the film. "Ingrid Goes West" is original, hilarious, poignant and irreverent. Aubrey and Ashley are absolutely perfect in their roles. Aubrey's ability to make you root for terrible people is extraordinary.
The authenticity of Ashley's "California Girl" blew me away. Ashley Olsen is an amazing actress and took this movie over the top. This is a movie you tell your friends about and I highly recommend.
