Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Page and Wood, who are both in their upper 20s, hardly make for convincing teenagers, but they both lend weight to Eva and Nell's sisterly bond as the two siblings slowly unravel. – Devan Coggan, Entertainment Weekly, Aug 1, 2016

Rotten: Rozema's minimalist approach pays dividends until a final third hobbled by overdone effects and a thrashing musical score. Too bad. The story being told on the faces of Page and Wood has eloquence and power. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jul 29, 2016

Fresh: Walks a blade's edge between terrifying and uplifting... Rozema has a careful but unflinching eye when it comes to presenting the physical and emotional traumas the sisters experience. – Katie Walsh, Los Angeles Times, Jul 29, 2016

Fresh: Beautiful and sensitive to character but gripping when it needs to be. – John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter, Oct 6, 2015

Worth it.

Not a thriller, but a totally different "apocalypse" movie. Good character development, great connection between the sisters. The survival storie is a likely chain of events after a nation wide power outage/unexplained event that has no end in sight. Nice to see a female centered movie for once. Not for the faint hearted though. NOT a "chick flick", though confronting at times. Have some perspective and give this story a try. You won't be disappointed.

Expect the unexpected

An interesting spin on the typical apocalyptic movie. Thriller? No, not at all.

This movie gave me cancer

There is nothing thrilling about this thriller. Two white chicks slime their way through a power outage, arguing the whole time, get raped, and then just walk into the forest. No conclusion. Just stops. Gave me cancer.
