Plot Summary

Agastya Rao (Akshay Kumar), is an astronaut with NASA, and when he finds out that his college sweetheart Piya (Preity Zinta) is about to divorce her husband, decides to try his hand at wooing her. He gets the voluntary help of one-time Bollywood wonder Suhaan Kapoor (Salman Khan), who accompanies Agastya to New York and assists him in successfully wooing Piya. On the night of their engagement, Agastya finds out that Suhaan only wanted to help him because of Section 25 of the Hindu Marriage Act - so that could relieve him of the financial burden of paying alimony to Piya, who was the girl he had secretly married much against the wishes of the entire family. Watch what happens when Suhaan finds out that he has a daughter named Suhaani - and that he still has strong feelings about Piya.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Jaan-E-Mann (the title means 'beloved') has many of its genre's shortcomings, including a shaky hold on the line between farce and stupidity and a soapy, melodramatic denouement. But it also has personable stars. – Anita Gates, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Why every New Yorker has a British accent is a mystery, but the musical number built around Piya and Agastya's engagement is worth its weight in rupees. – John Anderson, Newsday, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: We keep waiting for one of those outlandish musical treats to bring some life to the cliched script. Kunder throws in a few breaks, but they're tepid and brief. – V.A. Musetto, New York Post, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Viewers who are not already Bolly-heads are likely to be appalled. – David Chute, L.A. Weekly, Jun 24, 2010
