Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The script, by Mr. Dekker, spirals into a muddle of ambiguity, leaving only the imagery and the performances to save the movie. And try as they might, they cannot. – Andy Webster, New York Times, Oct 13, 2016

Rotten: While the movie's artfully made and daringly disturbing, Dekker ultimately overestimates how many sick twists one motion picture needs. – Noel Murray, Los Angeles Times, Oct 13, 2016

Rotten: What's more disappointing than the competing storylines is the emotional void created by these joyless characters. – April Wolfe, Village Voice, Oct 12, 2016

Rotten: The film veers almost at random from ghost story to family drama to erotic thriller to black comedy. – Keith Watson, Slant Magazine, Oct 10, 2016

Jack was sick AF

Such a great throwback thriller. Not a horror like trailers made it out to be! One of the best psychological thrillers I’ve seen since the Babadook. Reminded me of the Sixth Sense + Early Von Trier stuff

A Crime Against Lin Shaye

This movie was so godawful, not even Lin Shaye acting her face off could save it. The script is overwrought, and Rory Culkin is completely dead in his delivery. What exactly is it? Psychological horror? Family drama? Dekker doesn't know either. But it's a shame, because there are some striking images. Whoever did the trailer deserves a medal for cutting it into a more coherent story than there actually was. Great poster though.

Too much going on

I didn't really like this film overall. I thought the acting was decent but the numerous twists and turns overwhelmed me. I thought the best scene was with Nancy and Jack at the Vets office. Anyway, I am sure there will be those who enjoy this movie but I did not.
