About the Movie

An age-old war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the long-banished giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend . . . and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The movie feels so much like a video game that your fingers instinctively itch to do something, though a Jack video game isn't one we'd really want to play. – Mary F. Pols, TIME Magazine, Mar 1, 2013

Fresh: Jack the Giant Slayer is slight, but consistently amusing. – Tom Charity,, Mar 1, 2013

Fresh: The script sets up the situation and characters nicely, and the actors are terrific. – Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger, Mar 1, 2013

Rotten: While it's fine for a director to explore his childhood inspirations, you hope he would bring something a bit more personal to it. – Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail, Mar 1, 2013

Hollywood hasn't...

…had any new ideas in years. What happened to their creativity? Pathetic.

Jack and the Giant Slayer

Overall great must see family adventure movie and great twist on jack and the bean stalk. I defiantly recommend this movie to all ages 😄

Just didn't care

I just didn't care about this world, the characters, the crisis or the settings in this movie. I didn't care if the princess died. I didnt care if Jack died. I didn't care that the giants were trying to wage a war on the humans. There are a couple of good scenes with mcgregor but the rest is just ho hum, not fee fi fo fum. It is an action fairy tale movie with good CGI and a unique twist to Jack and the beanstalk that if you have some time to kill you can watch but there was nothing in this movie to make me want to watch it again. At all. I forget how it ended, and I don't really care. Nuff said.
