Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Damon owns the role and the movie. It's a tense, twisty mindbender anchored by something no computer can generate: soul. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jul 29, 2016

Rotten: Greengrass is as dexterous as ever, yet the result, though abounding in thrills, seems oddly stifled by self-consciousness and, dare one say, superfluous. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Aug 1, 2016

Rotten: The biggest disappointment, among many, for Greengrass's reboot of the franchise he and Damon had abandoned for a decade is how divorced Bourne is from his original species. – Will Leitch, The New Republic, Jul 29, 2016

Fresh: Greengrass stages three breathless marquee action sequences, including a smash-em-up car chase down the Las Vegas Strip that would make even the "Fast and Furious" gang stop and gawk. – Adam Graham, Detroit News, Jul 29, 2016

Very disappointed

I was really excited to see this and I'm sad to say that it was horrible. The basic plot was: see some confidential stuff that makes no sense, disorienting action sequence, see some more confidential stuff that makes no sense, disorienting action sequence, repeat. My friends and I drifted off many times.

Unlike the other Bourne movies, this one had no central question that drove the movie. That is probably why it's just called "Jason Bourne" and not "The Bourne _____."

The cinematography was equally bad. Every shot is a shaky close up and every fifth shot is a choppy zoom in. The action sequences would make just as much sense with my eyes closed.

Became ill

We felt physically ill 30 minutes into this movie. Its 1.5 hours of constant closeups, new shots every 3 seconds and shakey camera work that leads to a serious The way the, its tough to follow. Nothing like the first three.

No idea what they shot it this way

Shaky Cam… My old Foe.

This movie literally made me sick. Why is it that directors find the use of a hand-held camera more “Artistic” than a nice, slow paced, regular one??? When I left to go unleash whatever bile I contained, Bourne was in a car chase scene… when I came back? Another car chase. This movie was one big, vomit causing, CAR CHASE.
