Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: A clever thriller-chiller combining laughter with creepiness that should satisfy horror fans looking for a late-summer diversion. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Feb 24, 2007

Rotten: Jeepers Creepers is better setting things up than following through. It must resort to psychic mumbo-jumbo that has to be played straight and doesn't work. – Bob Graham, San Francisco Chronicle, Oct 18, 2008

Rotten: Unlike the recent horror films Session 9 and The Others, there's nothing remotely ambitious or imaginative in Jeepers Creepers. – Loren King, Boston Globe, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It's nice to walk out of a celluloid house of terror without feeling all cut up inside for a change. – Gene Seymour, Newsday, Jun 24, 2010

Very Scary...

Okay, I've heard some rumors about the director/writer, Salva, but that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy Jeepers Creepers. I saw it when i was 12-years-old and it gave me the chills -- then again, a lot of stuff did when I was 12. The acting is okay, though the gypsy lady was annoying and the catwoman was... eerie. Justin Long and his female counterpart were believable, if not thrown into a screenplay of mild cliches. The monster in this film could fit into its own mythology if its not in one already. The blood and gore factor is pretty heavy. Tongues get ripped from freshly severed heads, holes are punched into a person's stomach, and a nicely skinned body is left hanging for the monster to peer at us through. The story is pretty good, though Salva lets the cliches of earlier horror/slasher films get into the mix. Overall, while structurally incompetent, Jeepers Creepers has great thrills, the sought after gore by some, and one cool monstrous villain. Worth a rent, not so much a buy.
