Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Every so often there is a hand-to-hand fight scene to cut the boredom -- the best is set atop a precipitously high wooden tower in a village square -- but even these don't set themselves apart from anything we've seen before. – Gregory Kirschling, Entertainment Weekly, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: While showing his 43 years, Li is still capable of ripping his way through an ornate restaurant or clearing out 15 challengers in as many seconds. – Leighton Walter Kille, Boston Globe, Nov 24, 2011

Fresh: In Ronny Yu's sweeping film based on the life of wu shu master Huo Yuanjia, the retiring action star manages to tug a few heartstrings while breaking plenty of bones. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: A subplot involving his attachment to a blind village girl doesn't go anywhere, nor is it necessary; the real love affair here is Li's passion for the sport. – J. R. Jones, Chicago Reader, Jun 24, 2010

Not the version you are looking for

Great movie. However, the version seen here is inferior. The unrated version can be picked up as a physical Blu-ray copy (less video compression I may add) from a competitor for $11. iTunes is currently listing this one for $14.99 HD. The Unrated version runs for 141 minutes versus the one here at 103 minutes.

Apple did the same thing with the Lord of the Rings Extended Cut. However, because of the numbers of years that passed since they finally released Fearless, and that it's somewhat of niche title, I doubt an unrated version will ever come to light.

Horrible version. I made the mistake of buying this but it is not the theatrical version. Horrible cut. Horrible voiceover and subtitles are NOT what is being said and cuts out complete lines. I wish I would have known this is not what I saw in the theaters. Luckily, I have Amazon Prime and they have the theatrical version to download. Even better is the director's cut which is not your typical American film directors's cut. It is how the film was intended to be seen until the US media powers that be got a hold of it. AGAIN, do not purchase this one from iTunes. It is soooo lacking compared to the theatrical version but they don't tell you that it's not the one seen in theaters. For those that have seen the theatrical version, do yourself a favor and get the director's cut blu-ray. You won't regret it. For the digital version, go to Amazon!

Great movie, however...

Apple decides remove the Mandarin Chinese audio over night. Now it only has English or French. Kind of worries me that this can happen to any of the movies you purchase from iTunes. Looks like I will be sticking to Blu Rays from now on.

To further explain myself:
I watched half of it two nights ago (in Mandarin with subtitles). Tried to finish the other half last night and it reverted back to the English dub. Mandarin was completely removed from the iTunes description and video. It's a shame really. I was beginning to like buying digital copies from iTunes. Now I can't recommend anyone to.
