About the Movie
Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee for Best Foreign Film, Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) tells the true-life story of the spontaneous Christmas Eve truce declared by Scottish, French and German troops in the trenches of World War I. Enemies leave their weapons behind for one night as they band together in brotherhood and forget about the brutalities of war. Diane Krüger (Troy), Daniel Brühl (Good Bye Lenin!) and Benno Fürmann (The Princess and the Warrior) head a first-rate international cast in a truly powerful, must-see film.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: You can't watch this film without thinking about modern wars and about how much easier it is to demonize a foe when language and customs are more at odds.
Fresh: The film ends with a moving and surprisingly sophisticated meditation on the definition of moral duty.
Fresh: Some might castigate its unabashed sentimentality, but I found myself moved, especially when I recalled that this was supposedly the war to end all wars.
Rotten: Its noble intentions do not negate its lumpy ordinariness.
this is a great movie. very touching.
This movie shows the power of Jesus. It stops a war for a day because of Christmas celebration. Jesus's birth makes all the soldiers break their barriers of hate, nationality, and war. Must see movie. Excellent.
