Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: With its wise understanding of the magnetic pull (and invisible polarities) of family, Junebug is an auspicious debut for Morrison.
Fresh: It's a quiet, funny, moving triumph, the kind of movie that gives 'interesting' a good name.
Fresh: This brilliantly detailed, richly painted portrait lingers long in the memory.
Fresh: The adult tensions and the tone take us to a place remembered so vividly that even if we don't know this corner of the South, we've somehow lived there or at least passed through.
Adolescents of all ages will be bored
I'm not really a snob about films to the extent the title of my review may suggest, but sometimes I just have to defend quality. I've read the negative reviews and they all seem to be written by people who don't enjoy a movie unless there are CGI special effects. (I also notice that it's not enough for them to trash the film; they also have to flock to positive reviews and give them a "not helpful" rating). Kids! Well, I guess their reviews speak for themselves. I loved this low-key little slice-of-life film, about two newly-married city dwellers who make a side trip to visit the groom's parents in the small North Carolina town where the groom grew up, while the bride, an artists' agent, tries to hunt down and sign an iliterate, half-mad local artist in a nearby town. The actors are very good - in particular, Amy Adams, who plays the groom's sister-in-law, a naif who is in complete awe of the bride's sophistication. Adams was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance, and I think she should have gotten it. This is more than a city mouse/country mouse tale. It's about the meaning of "family", I think. See what you think.
Thank you itunes for adding this film! I loved it and the story was different from any other movie I've seen. The actors were fantastic--especially Amy Adams who plays the pregnant quirky sister-in-law. All of the actors deserve credit though, and the film wouldn't be the same without any one of them. I highly recommend the film and I will definitely watch it again.
Great story and fantastic performances
Loved the subleties in this film. The most powerful and poignant things in the movie were the unsaid. The cast was wonderful, especially Amy Adams.
