Plot Summary

A twisted, funny, high-octane adventure, director Matthew Vaughn brings "Kick-Ass" to the big screen. "Kick-Ass" tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There's only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Fast, periodically spit-funny and often grotesquely violent, the film at once embraces and satirizes contemporary action-film cliches with Tarantino-esque self-regard -- it's the latest in giggles-and-guts entertainment. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: A mosh pit of a comic-book movie that dares you to dive into its anarchy. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Feb 3, 2011

Fresh: Peppering an action flick with comedy is hardly original, but the mocking tone and off-kilter vibe set this film apart. It even has a hearty dose of charm, thanks mostly to the most outrageous performance by a child in recent memory. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: When filmmakers nudge a child into viewing savagery as slapstick, are we not allowing them to do what we condemn in the pornographer -- that is, to coarsen and inflame? – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Jun 24, 2010

Watch This Movie

Loved the movie, it was so funny. Can't wait to see it again!!!!! Oh and Hitgirl was the best, she kicked a*s!

Much better than I expected!

I was a little put off by the title at first; I thought it was overtly trying to make people notice it, so I was expecting a shallow half-comedy, half-action flick. After watching it, however, I realized this movie should be noticed; and, to my surprise, it was a lot more complex than it looks. Mark Strong is a great actor, and is an excellent bad guy in this film. I recommend it to anyone who likes superhero movies or comedies.

Great movie

I freaking loved this movie, it was the most original film I've seen in a long time. It's over the top violence and humor set it apart from everything else. Everyone that gives this movie anything less than four stars obviously has a horrible taste in movies and is still probably flipping out over an 11 year old girl swearing and killing bad guys.
