About the Movie

Jason Statham (The Italian Job), Academy Award® nominee Clive Owen (Inside Man) and Academy Award® winner Robert De Niro (Raging Bull) star in Killer Elite, "one of the best action thrillers of the year!" (Richard Roeper) When two of the world's most elite operatives -- Danny, a retired contract killer (Statham), and Hunter, his longtime mentor (De Niro) -- go up against the cunning leader of a secret military society (Owen), their hunt takes them around the globe from Australia to Paris, London, and the Middle East. As the stakes rise along with the body count, Danny and Hunter are soon plunged into an action-packed game of cat-and-mouse where no one is what they seem. Based on a shocking true story, it's an explosive, no-mercy thrill ride where the predator ultimately becomes the prey.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: [A] pileup of sub-Bourne action set pieces, sad laughs and cliches. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Sep 22, 2011

Rotten: Jason Statham is enjoyable enough to watch that he can occasionally make one forget just how silly and dull a movie like Killer Elite really is. – Ian Buckwalter, NPR, Sep 23, 2011

Rotten: When Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Jason Statham unite for an action thriller, we should be able to expect something special. Or at least memorable. Instead, "Killer Elite" gives us ordinary. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Sep 23, 2011

Rotten: Simultaneously silly and overwrought... – Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post, Sep 23, 2011

NOT An Action Movie

For those of you (and the critics above) who went into this thinking it was an action movie it is not. Honestly I don't think the director intended it to be. It is more of a commentary on things that are wrong in our world when our "heroes" are not any better than the villains. The movie is constantly reminding you that in this game there are no "good guys".

This is "supposedly" a true story about what happened when one family tried to exact revenge on the British SAS for the atrocities they committed during the Gulf War. Years later he hires a hit man to carry out his revenge against the men who killed his sons (the now retired SAS officers).

Jason Statham is a retired contract killer who is pulled into this mess when his former partner and mentor (Robert DeNiro) originally takes the job and tries to walk away.

Clive Owen is a retired SAS officer whose current job (without government sanction) is to protect the secrets of the SAS and it's men at all costs.

With that in mind you will understand why there is no high tech gadgetry and no over the top fight scenes (some good ones yes but they try to keep it realistic), etc.

Wow…I mean wow. It's hard to believe that an action flick starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen, and Robert De Niro could turn out to be such a bland, uninteresting, and forgettable time waster, but "Killer Elite" has managed to be that film. The script is terribly executed, the acting is incredibly dull, the characters have little to no personality, the dialogue is extremely cliched, and the plot is way too predictable for its own good. Although the set pieces are pretty cool to look at and the mindless action scenes are fun to watch, they're hardly enough to cover up the film's many, many flaws. It's clumsily directed, poorly written, and doesn't do anything to stand out from the other action-thrillers it tries to duplicate. Trust me, you'll have a much better time watching "The Expendables" or even "The Mechanic" over this clunker. At least those movies won't make you doze in and out of sleep like this one did to me.

Very Good Film!

The fact that this is based on a true story makes the plot that much more interesting and fun to watch. Statham and Owen turn in great performances, while DeNiro is very under used but does the most with his 20 minutes of screen time. A fun, action-packed thriller that will keep you interested till the very end. Download, watch, and enjoy!
