Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Our response to the ape's doom, once touched by authentic tragedy, is now marked by relief that this wretchedly excessive movie is finally over. – TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Good things do come in big packages. The trick for any filmmaker is to find the small movie within the big one, which is exactly what Peter Jackson does in King Kong. – Stephanie Zacharek,, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Kong is a showy, state-of-the-art popcorn movie, faithful to the spirit of the 1933 original but generously adrenalized with the best effects money can buy. – David Ansen, Newsweek, May 29, 2011

Fresh: One hundred eighty-seven minutes of mesmerization, astonishment, thrills, chills, spills, kills and ills, Peter Jackson's big monkey picture show is certainly the best popular entertainment of the year. – Stephen Hunter, Washington Post, Jul 16, 2008

pretentious, crams too much

the entire first half of the movie is a snorefest, and picks up near the end when king kong is brought into the city. The beginning drags on and serves to set a great setting, and further elaborate on the origins, but it's just boring. ill admit, i havent read the book or anything, but the premise of a hidden island called "skull island" is just pathetically bad. in addition, the overdone "primitive african tribe harboring/worshipping a god/mythical creature" is tired and its simply irritating to see it done again. the movie does not make you root for any of the characters other than the leading lady.. this is a problem. why should i care if that guy with glasses is stomped if i never cared about him in the first place? make me care about the people im watching and maybe ill be interested. good acting in general, and an odd role from usual comedian jack black, great special effects, but the first half is just so uninteresting that i have to give it a low score. in fact, the only part of the first half that i found cool were the giant insects. and that was like a 2 minute sequence

Greatest Movie Ever

King kong is amazing the visuals are stunning and the actors are brilliant one of my favorite movies of all time

Some Real MOVIES on iTunes Finally!

This is story telling at its best! Its about time iTunes got some really good movies on here. One thing about the Rental vs Buying, I don't always know if Im going to like a movie first so I rent it, after renting a movie it should give you an option to buy the movie for the remaining balance of the movie. So if this was 9.99 then after renting it for 2.99, it should be $7 to buy it. CLICK YES if you agree!
