Based on the Academy Award®-winning documentary, KON TIKI is the story of legendary Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl. In 1947, he and five other men crossed the Pacific Ocean in a balsa wood raft, proving that pre-Columbian South Americans could have crossed the sea and settled the Polynesian islands. After financing the trip through loans and donations, they set off on this epic 101-day journey across 4,300 miles of dangerous open water, as the world watched.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: "Kon-Tiki" is stalwart and uplifting and there are passing moments of wonder.
Fresh: Upbeat and less exciting than you might wish, though it could be a good adventure film for older kids.
Fresh: While the wind goes out of its sails a few times along the way, this is a ravishingly photographed, old-fashioned man-against-the-elements adventure epic propelled by human-scaled heroics.
Rotten: Unfortunately, sharks and whales aren't the stars of the film, so the movie is a pretty humdrum affair when it focuses on humans, even when actors are playing characters based on real people.
This movie's got it all: a great story, it's really entertaining and has some beautiful effects as well. It's a movie that everyone will enjoy!
