Great movie

Sometimes I feel that iTunes just stuffs the good stuff up in a hurry. I know that not all of the reviews are written by staff, but I know the next film in the trilogy is POWAQQATSI (with two Q's), so whoever wrote that pitifully small plot summary should at least check what few facts they place in their review. Now, the movie is an examination of humanity's shift from a natural environment to a technological environment. Reggio doesn't want you to see this shift as positive or negative; he simply feels that NOT being aware of this shift is negative. You can come away from the film and think good or bad about technology (or both good and bad). This film does document "progress" in both its best and its worst. Oh, and the score is amazing in its sublety and depth (thank you, Philip Glass). A great film unlike any other.

Quintessential to everyone's lifetime

Koyannisqati is one of those rare moments in life when one can truely step back and "see" the myriad of things in life that happen regardless of our awareness. The time-lapse, slo-motion camera work is used to as near perfection as possible, the hustle and bustle of life in Grand Central Station, the timelessness of the Grand Canyon, these and other aspects of our lives represented so eloquently by Reggio..I had forgotten just how much i loved this documentary when it came out, and i was so glad that itunes had it available. This is something you can watch multiple times and never get bored. Phillip Glass's soundtrack really emphasizes each and every sequence. I can only speak for myself, but i discovered at the end, during the credits, that there was absolutely no dialog the entire movie. It proved to me then, as it does now, that Koyannisqati transcends the usual politically bias documentary, rises above the comparisons between secular and religious viewpoints, and puts the essentials out in front, sans the stain of hypocrisy, for everyone to see and judge for themselves...

A Masterpiece.

Probably the most important visual epic of our time. Unfortunately it is in desperate need of digital remastering and restoration. Maybe some day Francis will pony up some cash to restore this to it's original splendor.
