The life of rock & roll legend Ritchie Valens bursts across the screen in this celebrated, music-filled movie with star-making performances by Lou Diamond Phillips as Ritchie and Esai Morales as his half-brother, Bob. La Bamba depicts the 17-year-old Mexican-American's rocket rise to fame, from field laborer to rock star with a string of hit singles and a date with destiny. Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: As Valens, Lou Diamond Phillips has a sweetness and sincerity that in no way diminish the toughness of his onstage persona. The role is blandly written, but Mr. Phillips gives Valens backbone.
Fresh: La Bamba is engrossing throughout and boasts numerous fine performances.
Fresh: Basically, it's a load of corn -- an up-from-the-basement account of a pop comet -- but the movie has an energetic, almost naive spirit.
Fresh: Predictably, there isn't a Ritchie blemish in sight. But the circumstances of Valens' life seem to beg this golden portrait.
iS A GREAT MOViE THAT i ENjOYED fOR THE FiRST TWO TiMES BUT iT WAS SAD THAT SOMEONE SO yOUNG AND TALENTED DiED AT 17.
I was introduced to this movie in my Spanish class this year, by the time the movie was over, the classroom was dead silent and almost every girl was crying. This movie makes you feel you know Ritchie Valens and will touch your heart.
This is an amazing movie and I would highly recommend watching it ATLEAST once!!!
