Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Lake Placid could easily have been made as a PG-13 movie, or perhaps even a PG. But the better to tempt teen-age audiences, it talks its way into an R.
Rotten: There's a special look that actors get - avid yet resigned - when the movie they're starring in is so bad it practically billboards their stalled careers.
Fresh: Has an easygoing sense of fun, along with one of the more memorable movie monsters of recent years.
Rotten: An almost mystifyingly bad movie!

This movie is funny and scary at the same time. A great movie!
Ignore the Critics
Ignore the critics, they obviously didn't get this delightfully playful sendup of giant croc/gator/shark movies. Pullman and Fonda are terrific in this film, surrounded by a great supporting cast -- and a featured cameo by Betty White make this a modern horror-comedy classic. The writing is snappy and the predictable but fun plot will keep you entertained from spooky start to fantastic finish. This film is one of my all-time fav's.
so much fun
This film is tongue-in-cheek with some great special effects crocodile action. Doesn't take itself seriously, and is just good 'ol entertainment. Everyone should see Lake Placid for Betty White's cameo if nothing else. She's priceless!
