Rotten: By the grand finale, when tout le monde is waving the French tricolor in victory, you may instead be raising the white flag in exhausted defeat. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Dec 25, 2012

Fresh: If you like your musicals enormous, over the top and bang-on-the-head manipulative, "Les Miserables" is the movie for you. – Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic, Dec 25, 2012

Fresh: Ultimately the film's choppy, camera-goes-anywhere approach works well in translating a play that was never all that interested in the movement of bodies anyway-only their martyrdom. – Michael Koresky, Film Comment Magazine, Nov 5, 2013

Fresh: At the end of 158 minutes, you really have experienced something. What exactly, I'm still not sure. – Peter Bradshaw, Guardian, Jan 10, 2013

Soud is spotty

The only reason I gave this 2 stars is when I rented this, the sound kept going out and I could not hear all of this fantastic movie. Having seen this movie 5 times in theater, this was a huge disappointment, but the movie is AMAZING. Really wish the sound was good :(

Love it!

It was definitely the best movie of the year, plus it became one of my favorites.

Amazing music, powerful acting performances, & strong direction from Tom Hooper makes this not just one of 2012's best, but one of the best musical films of all time. Now to those unfamiliar with the story don't be fooled by its beautiful look because Les Miserables isn't a sappy chick flick by any means in fact it's sad, depressing, & very emotional. However it does have a strong meaning to it. Now what I really loved about this movie was the acting performances. Everyone did an outstanding job, but Huge Jackman & Anne Hathaway were the best. Watching them they felt so real and believable. Its no wonder why their winning awards left and right. Also one of the best things was the live singing. Apparently this was the first time it's every been done. It worked perfectly I honestly don't understand why its not done more often, but anyway I highly recommend renting/buying Les Miserables especially if you like musical theater this is a definite must see!
