Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Spackling over any copycat cracks with strong acting and fleet editing, "Lights Out" delivers minimalist frights in old-school ways.
Fresh: Predictable stuff, energized by some spiffy scare effects and actors who perform well beyond the call of fright-house duty.
Fresh: Although the movie doesn't offer much in the way of characterization, its cheap thrills are manufactured effectively, like an amusement-park ride designed to rattle the nerves.
Rotten: The fun wears out fast and so does the "gotcha" factor.
Scarier than The Conjuring!
The idea of this movie was really good. Loved the story behind the movie! But what I look for in horror movies is suspense and lots of jumpscares. This movie gave me just that. I screamed in theater by watching this movie more than watching The Conjuring 2. The whole theater screamed too! I feel like now after watching this movie I won't sleep and I will keep the lights on because I see shadows in the dark and I think it's Diana. Go see this movie if you haven't yet! James Wan never lets me down!
This movie is pretty decent. The jump scares are a bit predictable, but overall effective. Now I don't go to horror films to jump in my seat. I go to see a disturbing and mind-infesting thrill ride with actual characters, and not disposable wooden objects. This film has a good story, with actual characters, but what I like most about this film is the excellent lighting. However , there a little too many jumpscares that deflate the film and most of them are predictable. Overall, Lights Out is worth a watch.
I usually hate scary movies. But I loved this one, I screamed so hard and almost cried until the ending lol
