Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The great, stirring epic "Lone Star" stands as a peak in the career of John Sayles, who already has such admirably serious films to his credit.
Fresh: Sayles has surrounded his hero with other, more interesting characters and has warmed Lone Star with the glow of a humanist optimism rare in contemporary movies.
Fresh: A richly textured and thoroughly engrossing drama that ranks with indie filmmaker John Sayles' finest work.
Fresh: John Sayles' "Lone Star" contains so many riches, it humbles ordinary movies.
RIP Elizabeth Pena

Tragically Unknown Classic
I am a huge movie fan. I own over 1000 films spanning all genres, black/white, silent, Korean, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Indian, Chinese, obviously American and Canandian cinema as well. I love every genre and I’m a beast at the Leonard Maltin game. This movie is unique in that ever single scene has a wonderful performance and is vital to the story like a well tailored suit there isn’t an extra inch on this film. every actor (and there are many) no matter how small or seemingly insignificant their part maybe absolutely crushes, and even with 20+ characters that are all interconnected and woven into the story beautifully EVERY SCENE MATTERS. There is not one ounce of fat on this movie. On top of one of the most well put together scripts and amazing casting and editing the story is almost indescribable, part love story, part murder mystery, part dissection of US Mexican relations plus a little bit of small town politics and thats leaving off at least 4 other somehow fully fledged out story lines. It defies genre it defies time period its Romeo and Juliet and Sicario and Chinatown all rolled into one. I find something new every time I watch this amazing MUST SEE film.
In my top 50
This is good moviemaking and good storytaking. The live seques between the past and present are masterful. It involves a number of interwoven stories, each of which supports and shows light on the other. This is not an Oscar-level film, but it is one of my favorites simply because of its depth and the fascinating story it tells.
