Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: It was smart, in theory, to cast some very good actors not usually seen in this sort of fare. Ultimately, though, their casting can't do much to salvage script's dim human dimensions.
Rotten: By largely jettisoning the elements that made the TV series popular, the creative crew of Lost in Space embarked on a road not fated to meet with any kind of meaningful success.
Rotten: Once again an idea for a big budgeted feature film has been pulled from old issues of TV Guide.
Rotten: Lost in Space is lost on the big screen. Or, rather, it never arrives. This film version of the campy TV series that aired from 1965 to '68 seldom seems more than a secondhand slog through two hours of instant staleness.
Lost in Space is awesome!
great movie! This movie is 5 times better than the old TV show! I was completely satisfied!
Back to the Future
Neat special effects. Near robot and creatures. Predictable pathetic updated family relations and morality. I liked the old series with its bad special effects, campy humor and Jonathan Harris better.
Lost In Space. FOR REAL.
This was big fun and a welcome surprise. As with any re-imagining, I was anxious to see what kind of world they'd create and (more importantly) what exactly could be done to reinvigorate the franchise. The advent of the workaholic dad, the swashbuckling fighter pilot and the introduction of the overachieving child with a symbiotic relationship with his pet Robot left me feeling as if mine were money well spent! There are pitfalls, however -- things I didn't enjoy -- like Lacey Chabert's annoying rendition of Penny Robinson (who's idea was THAT) and the introduction of a terrorist group who (for some inexplicable reason did NOT want the human race to survive). These elements ripped me out of the story at unexpected intervals, but didn't keep me from wanting more (a TV series, maybe?). Haha. Your guess is as good as mine. But, long story short? If you're into Sci Fi, this is one pic that won't let you down. Happy viewing!
