Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Lost in Translation revels in contradictions. It's a comedy about melancholy, a romance without consummation, a travelogue that rarely hits the road. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Very much a mood piece, the film's deft balance of humor and poignancy makes it both a pleasurable and melancholy experience. – David Rooney, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: With this film it becomes clear that Sofia Coppola is a filmmaker with eyes all her own. – David Ansen, Newsweek, Oct 5, 2008

Fresh: Of course, Mr. Murray gets all the laughs with his exquisite timing and wry delivery, but Ms. Johansson makes an eloquent and charismatic listener. – Andrew Sarris, New York Observer, Apr 27, 2007

Dunno about translation, but I was lost...

This is one of these movies that was talked up a storm, but honestly, it simply goes nowhere. Putting it in the 'Comedy' genre is, to put it charitably, a bit of a stretch; it barely raises a smile. The storyline goes nowhere and frankly, I can remember fungal growths which gave me greater pleasure to watch. If you want to see Bill Murray in a comedy, rent Groundhog Day, not this incoherent ramble of a film.

Only an idiot would not LOVE this movie!

Seriously one of the best movies in the last decade. The beautiful simplicity with which it celebrates the hope and despair of life will resonate with you. The acting is billiant but not overdone. It captures perfectly the way that an American first experiences Japan in the midst of a subtle, but often hilarious, love story.

I love this movie!

This is a great movie that you can just get lost in. Murray and johanson are great in this movie. Very entertaining!
