Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: I find it irresistible. Plenty of other adults will feel the same way. And, needless to say, so will the kids.
Fresh: The sets are luxuriant, the songs lilting, the scenario witty but impeccably sentimental, and the supporting cast only a pinfeather short of perfection.
Fresh: Julie Andrews' first appearance on the screen is a signal triumph and she performs as easily as she sings, displaying a fresh type of beauty nicely adaptable to the color cameras.
Fresh: The grace of the effects makes it some kind of classic.
No matter how old I am, this film has always made me smile. I recommend it for children ( and those who are children at heart ) it's a wonderful family movie.
An absolutely wonderful film
Walt Disney had a hard time getting the rights to Mary Poppins, the author didn't want it turned into a cartoon. And what we got was a mix of live action and animation. Walt was very proud of what he did with all his films. And the message is simple enough, "a spoonful of sugar will help the medicine go down"
