Important and timeless viewing—one of those films I wish I saw when I was 12 or 13 years old!

Must See

An absolute brilliant, heartfelt glimpse into the life and family of a young man who is taking too early. The film itself was done with such love. When this happened, his story affected me so deeply. Living close to where this happened, we followed the story very closely as it unfolded. It's a tragedy when ever a child has to leave before his parents eyes, and for him to be taken in this heinous manor was just incomprehensible for me. I know there is true evil in this world, but there is also brilliant, loving good.

I just wish good would win out more often.

Beautiful film honoring Matt

As someone who first learned of Matt’s story through the Laramie Project, watching Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine helped to fully round out my understanding of the tragedy the happened in Laramie 17 years ago. While the Laramie Project focuses on how a hate crime effects a community, Michele Josue’s tender documentary focused on how a hate crime effects the victim’s immediate friends and family. This film is dignified in the way it portrays Matt and serves to honor his memory rather than memorialize him as a martyr. Thank you for sharing Matt’s story!
