Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A half-baked, time-wasting curtain-raiser for a superhero franchise that is never, ever going to happen. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Oct 14, 2016

Rotten: While the proverbial "'90s kids" may get a nostalgic kick out of seeing their old action figures in the flesh, novices are likely to be bored by a movie that feels more like a failed pilot for a TV show. – Noel Murray, Los Angeles Times, Oct 14, 2016

Rotten: What's truly depressing about the whole enterprise is that Garcia and Bello were pulled into it. Yes, actors love to work and bills need to be paid, but perhaps a fund could be started to spare talented thespians this sort of career embarrassment. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Oct 14, 2016

Rotten: A movie based on a toy should be a whole lot more fun than this. – Christy Lemire, RogerEbert.com, Oct 14, 2016

Max Steel

As a fan of the 2013 cartoon series, I was rather excited for this movie. I thought that Max Steel would make a good movie. And apparently, so did they. Open Road films began making the film in 2014, and finished in 2014 as well. However, the film went through several production problems, and was not released during 2015. But now they were determined to get it out, so they released it in October of 2016. I wanted this movie to do good. I really did. But to be honest, it kind of just came out of nowhere. The first trailer for the movie was released like 2 months before the film was due out in theaters. Very little marketing went into this production. The only reason that I knew about it was because I searched it all the time to see if there was any more news on it. I mean, no one really knew about this movie, and that's part of the reason it was a box office flop. I believe there is a audience for Max Steel, but no one knew this movie was coming. I went to see it, and I enjoyed it. I didn't love it, but I enjoyed it. There was certainly some things that could have been improved on, but overall, I thought it was a pretty decent film. But man, the critics are really hardcore. First of all, let me get this straight. Not a lot of people went to see this movie. It only grossed about 4 million dollars against a 20 million dollar budget. This is probably due to the many negative reviews. Sure, it's not Marvel, or D.C., but it's still a genuine superhero movie. It may not be as exciting as some of the MCU movies, but it certainly had something going for itself. I believe if it was marketed more, more people would have gone to see it, and it would have more positive reviews. Because really, It's pretty good. Please don't listen to the critics. Watch it. If you don't like it, fine. But that doesn't mean ruin it for others who may enjoy it. That's why I don't like Rotten Tomatoes. I feel like they just shut a movie down before it even has a chance to get started. I think that you shouldn't let other people decide what you think. Decide for yourself. Please, watch Max Steel if your a science fiction, or adventure fan. If you don't like it, that's fine. At least you gave it a chance. 👍

Absolutely Incredbile!!!

Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Juwanna Mann...these are timeless classics that don't even come close to MAX STEEL. With special effects reminiscent of Syfy channel movies in the late 90s and a script compiled from a 5th grader's writing journal this is the cinematic masterpiece we didn't know we needed. I had the pleasure of watching this hour and a half GARBAGE in the theaters and was in awe the entire time. Fingers crossed this sweeps all of the awards (Razzies).

This is a "Waste of time" type of movie

If you are really bored and don't have anything to do then you can watch this movie. I would'nt buy the movie though lol
The acting is bad, action scenes look unproffessional.
