Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: There is breezy comedy to be made of a YouTube-age writer meeting the icons and idols of a bygone, classical era, but Allen goes deeper, expanding on his time-travel device to make unexpected and unexpectedly generous observations. – Gary Thompson, Philadelphia Inquirer, Jun 3, 2011

Fresh: Midnight in Paris is charming and clever, at times wickedly astute and hopeful. – Lisa Kennedy, Denver Post, Jun 3, 2011

Fresh: Our hero has found his groove among the Lost Generation and, for us, there's some amusement to be had in sharing Gil's thrills -- it's like stepping into a Classic Comics version of A Moveable Feast. – Rick Groen, Globe and Mail, Jun 3, 2011

There's no denying that Woody Allen is one of the greatest filmmakers of our time. From "Annie Hall" to "Vicky Cristina Barcelona", his unique and quirky comedy-dramas have entertained and delighted audiences for more than four decades. And "Midnight In Paris" is no different. The plot centers around a small group of Americans visiting the French capital for business and pleasure. The movie's protagonist, Gil Pender (Owen Wilson), is forced to confront the shortcomings of his relationship with his fiancée and their divergent future goals due to his magical experiences in the city. Beginning each night at midnight, Gil is whisked away to 1920's-era France where he meets many famous celebrities of the time, from F. Scott Fitzgerald (Tom Hiddleston) to Salvador Dali (Adrien Brody). Wilson gives an exceptionally committed performance of the film's enthusiastic and constantly distracted main character. Even Rachel McAdams is convincingly overbearing as Gil's soon-to-be wife. Plus, I do have to admit that it's quite an enjoyable and surreal experience to see such notable historical figures as Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso in the same scene together. Of course, there are many other great things about this movie I could list, but I don't wanna give too much away. As a whole, "Midnight In Paris" completely captivated my interest with its charming original story, nostalgic music, breathtaking visuals of Paris, and charismatic cast of characters. Once again, Woody has proved with this clever and ingenious comedy that he won't be leaving the film industry anytime soon. At the very least, I highly recommend renting or even buying this little gem of a movie so you too can experience quality filmmaking at its finest.

I bought this movie when I was in Paris, however I had seen it in movies before. It's such a wonderful film. It shows that comedies do not always have to be vulgar or low class. This is a masterpiece in the art of Filmmaking and Acting. I've seen it already 5 times and it never, and never will, be old!! Buy it, you'll love it ;)

This was probably one of the best movies I have ever seen!!
