Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) is a tough ex-cop turned bounty hunter. Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Charles Grodin) is a sensitive accountant who embezzled $15 million from the Mob, gave it to charity and then jumped bail. Jack's in for a cool $100,000 if he can deliver The Duke from New York to L.A. on time. And alive. Sounds like just another Midnight Run (a piece of cake in bounty hunter slang), but it turns into a cross-country chase. The FBI is after The Duke to testify - the Mob is after him for revenge - and Walsh is after him to just shut up. If someone else doesn't do the job, the two unlikely partners may end up killing each other in this hilarious, action-filled blockbuster from producer-director Martin Brest (Beverly Hills Cop).

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Mr. De Niro and Mr. Grodin are lunatic delights, which is somewhat more than can be said for the movie, whose mechanics keep getting in the way of the performances.
Fresh: A performance like De Niro's, in a well-made entertainment like Midnight Run, is cheap at any price. And capable of restoring the audience's faith in the form.
Fresh: The result is one of the most entertaining, best executed, original road pictures ever.
Fresh: Who said movies always have to be original? This one is redeemed by execution and brilliant talent: De Niro, Grodin, director Martin Brest, composer Danny Elfman, most of the cast and technicians.
Some of DeNiro's Best Work
Absolutely fantastic picture about an irritable bounty hunter (Robert DeNiro) whose simple assignment of tracking down a former mob accountant (Charles Grodin) who jumped bail, turns into a week-long cross-country chase involving mafia hit men, the FBI, and a rival bounty hunter. Director Martin Brest, who demonstrated a real knack for perfectly mixing comedy and action in his earlier film Beverly Hills Cop, once again keeps the action exciting and visceral but is also never afraid to allow intimate character moments as well. But what really makes this picture special is the chemistry between DeNiro and Grodin, whose acting work in the film ranks as some of their best. The scenes between the two (much of which was improvised) are truly hilarious and an absolute joy to watch. If anyone out there is a budding actor - they should defintely watch this film. Also boasts a terrific and stylistically uncharacteristic Danny Elfman score that is fairly recognizable due to the fact that it is used constantly in movie trailers.
That's A Nice Jacket; What Is That, uh, Goatskin?
This is my favorite movie of all time. I watched this a dozen times when it was in the theaters, and own it now. It never gets old, and keeps getting better. This is the perfect road trip/buddy movie, with nice action sequences, sharp writing, and a superb supporting cast. Robert DeNiro is in his best comedic role -- he is perfect in this film. He and Charles Grodin have a great chemistry together. Danny Elfman's score really accentuates the various moods of the film. Five stars all around... Now I got two words for you: Shut the *eff* up!
Great buddy movie
Charles Grodin is hilarious and Robert De Niro shows he's got some great comic chops. This is a classic buddy film where the "buddies" bicker and banter like they're Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday. Good entertaining fun.
