About the Movie

Mirrormask is the story of Helena, who works for the family circus, and wishes-quite ironically-that she could run away and join real life. But such is not to be the case, as she finds herself on a strange journey into the Dark Lands, a fantastic landscape filled with giants, Monkey-birds and dangerous sphinxes. Helena searches for the Mirrormask, an object of enormous power that is her only hope of escaping the Dark Lands, waking the Queen of Light and returning home.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Other efforts of this sort have succumbed to terminal whimsy, but director Dave McKean gives us enough reminders of the girl's fragile emotional state to provide some grounding. – Walter V. Addiego, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The narrative is simplistic and lacking in energy, and the characters are sketched instead of fully formed. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Jul 22, 2008

Fresh: Too long, and too rich, for its own good, but clearly Gaiman and McKean were bursting with ideas. Those ideas fly all over the place, sometimes landing with a thunk, but more often taking the breath away. – Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: A 30-minute idea wrapped in a 100-minute movie. It's a jewel box filled with cubic zirconia. – Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel, Jun 24, 2010

Hear this: I recommend this movie to ANYONE. It is a beautifully rich film and story with lively characters and a strangeness that is just delicious to watch. Almost poetic, this movie brings mystery into daily life. Or, more accurately, imagination into reality, and reality into the imagined. Whats life without a little mixing of the two?? The only thing is, where's the soundtrack????! My favorite scene is the one where Hellena is put into a trance by these robot-like creatures singing a creepy twist to The Carpenters' "Close to You." It really sends chills down the spine. But you cant buy that or any of the other songs from the movie on iTunes! Please, put on the soundtrack!!

This movie is very good. It has a little bit of a creepy feel to it, but i love it. Although i really wish itunes would put up the soundtrack.

Great Movie!!

This movie is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. The choice of graphics and characters and story line really make this movie into something special. I wish iTunes would come out with a soundtrack because the music is what really draws you in deeper!
