Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It's eye candy that detonates.
Rotten: Woo lays on his own particular high-octane stylishness so thick the results edge perilously toward self-parody.
Rotten: "M:I-2," as the new Mission: Impossible is tagged, is a slick, expensive, bullet-ridden thriller that is oddly dull -- the last thing you'd expect.
Fresh: Mission: Impossible 2 is pure escapism and never pretends to be anything else.
This won't explode in five seconds...
Put aside the fact that it strays away from the TV series and the first Mission Impossible movie. This is was a very intense action movie, it goes along with Shoot 'em Up, Transporter, etc., genre. I thought the plot was a typical action movie storyline, however the key to every action movie are the action scenes. This movie has it, considering Tom Cruise did most of his own stunts. M:I-2 is a great buy for your ipod, because it's entertaining, intense and full of good acting. I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, but I am obsessed with action movies. If you liked Bad Boys 2, Mission Impossible 3 or Tomb Raider. You'll enjoy this movie. I also recommend Vertical Limit and The Rock.
Entertaining Yet not the peak of the Series
Tom Cruise does a briiliant job in the Mission Impossible series. Mission Impossible is the corner stone to the series as it introduces the ideas and characters presented in the movies by a thrilling plot and intense action. Mission Impossible 3 is by far the best of the series with an exciting plot filled with action that will blow you away. Mission Impossible 2 has the exciting action but an average plot. It's still a good movie to see for Mission Impossible fans and anyone who wants some good action.
The plot was pretty good - unoriginal, but well-written. However, the acting was poor, and there was a 30 second, hair tossing, burning look slow-motion sequence about once every ten minutes...drove me nuts! If you want a decent action flick, then rent away, but don't expect it to be anywhere near the level of the other two MI movies.
