About the Movie

A timeless story of human connection and self-discovery, MOONLIGHT chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. At once a vital portrait of contemporary African American life and an intensely personal and poetic meditation on identity, family, friendship, and love, MOONLIGHT is a groundbreaking piece of cinema that reverberates with deep compassion and universal truths. Anchored by extraordinary performances from a tremendous ensemble cast, Jenkins’s staggering, singular vision is profoundly moving in its portrayal of the moments, people, and unknowable forces that shape our lives and make us who we are.

Masterpiece of film making

I just saw this film in the theatre. I am spellbound and mesmerized by the storyline, characters, performances, and the impeccable story-telling of the Director and all of the cast. Best movie of 2016

What a story. Barry Jenkins directed this masterpiece. It is his second film. A coming age of story, beautifully shot and told. This is worth your time.

Felt like real lives up on screen...

....and it was beautiful. Like a painting where the perspective, colors, and framing are done just so. However the struggles, though shot in an engaging manner, made me go hmmm, more than fall off my seat. It was all very safe, dramatized as dangerous or hurtful.

But the acting was enjoyable, and the situations plausible. I just needed the kind of shake up that gets inside you and doesn't let go. This kind of story deserved that.
