Mother is a devoted single parent to her simple-minded twenty-seven-year-old son, Do-joon. Often a source of anxiety to his mother, Do-joon behaves in foolish or simply dangerous ways. One night, while walking home drunk, he encounters a school girl who he follows for a while before she disappears into a dark alley. The next morning she is found dead in an abandoned building, and Do-joon is accused of her murder. An inefficient lawyer and an apathetic police force result in a speedy conviction. His mother refuses to believe her beloved son is guilty and immediately undertakes her own investigation to find the girl's killer. In her obsessive quest to clear her son's name, Mother steps into a world of unimaginable chaos and shocking revelations.

Fresh: You never know where Mother is going to go next. All you know is that you're in the hands of a master with an appreciably bent sense of humor.
Fresh: As with director Bong Joon-ho's previous film The Host, Mother also is a movie about a monster. Only this one wears an apron.
Fresh: The film is labyrinthine and deceptive, and not in a way we anticipate. It becomes a pleasure for the mind.
Fresh: Bong's opening and climactic scenes, in which the old woman bops around to a dance tune amid a vast field of yellow grass, are typical of the movie's cockeyed poetry.
Without giving away too much, I'd say I love the way the opening sequence only makes sense and incredibly poetic, haunting beautiful end sequence. Gorgeous and intelligent storytelling.
This is seriously one of the best movies that I have ever watched. I'm so glad that I decided to buy it on a whim. Mother was so well put together, no remake could proceed it. The cast was perfect, but Kim Hye-ja stole the show. I watched in awe as she magically transformed on-screen. From the happy moments to the sad ones (and even the comical ones.) Boog Joon-ho did an excellent job on this film. I did not expect that the movie would make such a drastic- heart-throbbing turn, I had to stop thinking and just enjoy Mother- and I'll tell you something: after it was done, I sat up and said: oh my goud, it was perfect." Buy it now, you won't regret it. I can't wait to watch it with my mother!
Very good film. Need to stay with it. A bit long at times, but worth the investment.
