Rotten: If you gave an extremely bright fifteen-year-old a bag of unfamiliar herbs to smoke, and forty million dollars or so to play with, "Mother!" would be the result.
Fresh: If you're game for it, "Mother!" is another of Aronofsky's ominous extravaganzas.
Fresh: "mother!" is undeniably a wild, memorable ride. It's a Rorschach test of a movie to interpret however you like.
Fresh: It's a tough nut to crack, but it's a trip to trying to break it open. Exclamation point earned.
Thought-provoking, frightening, and amazing.
One of the most intense movie experiences I've ever had. All the performances are amazing and Darren's direction is just awesome. See it for yourself and prepare to be mesmerized.
It's not a good movie. For a number of reasons. It's depressing and imho - not worth watching 👀
So great there isn't anything exceptional to title this review.
When I watched the trailer of this movie, first thing you'd think this movie would be about is a cult or something as such. But within the first 30 minutes you can tell it's something entirely different, something even more raw. Before I watched this movie, I went on Wikipedia to see the character names and when I watched it, it made complete sense while others were confused (so there's a bit of advice). But with the names, I could get the jist of what was supposed to happen (in a sorts), but not how or when, which made me more willing and wanting to watch it. The best biblical allegory, if there ever was one, this film will make you question everything, every word, every action, every second. Granted it's a bit of a slow movie, and some might be frustrated with it, specifically for the fact that it's supposed to be a horror film. This film isn't Michael Myers or Leatherface scary, but it's scary in the sense of a nightmare, a nightmare that isn't scary, but yet it is (it's hard to explain). But of course, this movie wouldn't be what it is, if not for the complex, nuanced, brilliant performances of Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, and Michelle Pfeiffer, who all add their own element to the story. Overall, great movie!
