About the Movie
Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys in the American Midwest, becoming one of history’s most infamous serial killers. This is the story before that story. Jeff (Disney Channel’s Ross Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins. His bizarre behavior at school attracts unexpected friends, a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Alex Wolff, “Patriots Day”). But as they near graduation, Jeff’s depravity continues to take hold, and he spirals further out of control. Based on Backderf’s critically acclaimed 2012 graphic novel and written for the screen and directed by Marc Meyers, MY FRIEND DAHMER is the haunting, sad, funny, true story of Jeffrey Dahmer in high school.

Fresh: This film is sensitively wrought. It's credible in its evocation of mid-'70s suburbia. The acting is excellent throughout, and Ross Lynch in the role of Dahmer elicits genuine sympathy for an increasingly lost but not yet monstrous soul.
Rotten: More than a week after watching writer-director Marc Meyers' My Friend Dahmer, I'm still trying to figure out who exactly the film is meant for and why on earth it was made.
Fresh: A warped wonder of a movie about a cannibalistic serial killer's awkward teenage years-it takes twisted to areas few have investigated.
Fresh: It sees Jeffrey Dahmer for what he was: a young man who could express himself only through the most hideous violence. Yet it shows you that what he had to express was real.
So bad I wished I would have a seizure so I wouldn’t remember it,
“My Friend Dahmer” is the worst movie of 2017, and the worst release of 2018 (so far). The movies slow pace and terrible dialogue make for a slow, long drawn out movie that has no real plot, the trailer makes it seem to be the downfall of one of America’s most infamous serial killers, and how he became the way he was. The movie reminds me of something you would hear about as a “Lifetime Channel” movie they would play during the day when house wives, and other people are home during the day desperate for something to watch when the weather is too bad to venture outside. Stay away from this one it may just be a serious contender for a Razzie award for worst movie of the year. If I could rate it at zero stars for a rating, I movie I totally would. It is absolutely terrible

Ima huge fan of Ross and his work in general. I went into this thinking it would be him having fun and being goofy the way he always is. I lost myself so many times thinking this was Dahmer. I was so pulled into this movie. When the credits rolled and it said “Ross Lynch” I had to close my computer and reflect on what I had just seen my favorite singer/songwriter do.
This struck a nerve and made me feel so sad and melancholy because of how realistic it was.
My heart broke so many times realizing this was a true story and that the majority of these things did happen.
Ross, Alexx, and Anne were all great in the film. I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of film in and of itself.
Great All Around...
Ross did an amazing job portraying the demeanor of a teenaged Jeffrey Dahmer. Filmed in and around Dahmer's childhood home makes it all the more authentic. Cinementography is beautiful, stellar cast, and great movie version of the graphic novel, My Friend Dahmer. Don't go into this one thinking it's a slasher film. It isn't. Also, don't think you will suddenly know what made Dahmer tick, because you won't. This story is told from the viewpoint of his classmates. They didn't know what was lurking in Jeffrey's brain - no one did.
