About the Movie

A blockbuster in its native Korea, where it would go on to become the country’s most successful independent film of all time, MY LOVE, DON’T CROSS THAT RIVER presents an unforgettable story of true love that transcends both generations and cultures. 100-year old lovebirds, Jo Byeong-man and Kang Kye-yeol, have been inseparable companions for 76 years. Observing this fragile couple for 15 months, director Moyoung Jin acts as a fly-on-the-wall, capturing the tender moments of their twilight days - as the two face the inevitable reality that their time together will soon be approaching an end.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: There is visual poetry in Jin Mo-young's documentary, "My Love, Don't Cross That River," and unblinking observation as well. – Andy Webster, New York Times, Jun 16, 2016

Fresh: It's a sweet movie - just not not wholly a "documentary" to whose reality you'd necessarily trust your own grandmother when depositing her at the rest home. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Jun 15, 2016

Fresh: My Love, Don't Cross That River is a moving tribute to the beauties and mysteries of life and death, an exploration of how growing old gives the gift of time, but there's never enough. – Katie Walsh, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2016

Rotten: As fly-on-the-sarcophagus violations of human dignity go, here's one I deeply regret witnessing. – Scott Marks, San Diego Reader, Jul 8, 2016
